ConfigMgr 2012 R2: Failed to update Boot Image

Kept on getting error “Failed to insert OSD binaries into the mounted WIM file”

The steps I did to fix this issue was to replace the wim file with the ADK WinPE file. Here’s the steps:

1. Rename the faulty boot.wim in folder <SCCM_Installation_Folder\osd\boot\x64 to boot.bak
2. Copy winpe.wim from <ADK_Installation_Drive>\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.1\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment\x64\en-us to <SCCM_Installation_Folder>\osd\boot\x64
3. Rename winpe.wim to boot.wim
4. Paste the same winpe.wim to the same folder and rename it to boot.<packageID>.wim

You may redo this for x86 if it’s giving you the same issue.
